hi.
I treat this like my own personal diary if my diary had the potential to be read by anyone on the internet. Here is my safe space and just a passion project; I post literally whatever and whenever I want, so don’t expect any consistency. I’m a college undergrad working on degrees in Psychology and English, so you can expect a little bit of bias in those directions, but fret not! I cover topics for everyone!
I feel obligated to explain the name I chose: almost odyssean. The Odyssey, if you are unaware, is an epic Greek poem (presumed to be written by Homer) about a dude named Odysseus after he fought in the Trojan War and is now trying to get home to his wife Penelope and son Telemachos. Lots of mythological creatures come from this epic because Odysseus fights and (spoiler alert) kills them. Many thrilling adventures ensue for Odysseus, and also his wife and son. Essentially, it’s a story about resilience, perseverance, and vengeance. I read the Odyssey in class with an incredible professor, and I was inspired to do something for myself with these ideas in mind; thus this substack was born. There’s a moment in the Odyssey where Odysseus has to sneak back into the palace without anyone noticing (there’s a whole subplot where there is a bunch of suitors trying to marry his wife so they can become king), so the goddess Athene magically disguises him into anonymity and not even his wife and child recognize him. I think that level of obscurity is mysterious and fun, so I wanted to incorporate that as well. I won’t be sharing my name or any of my other social media platforms (even though sometimes I share my posts there—hey guys!) in an attempt to have that same sort of freedom Odysseus did to traverse his palace unnoticed and unbothered. What I’m trying to say is the world is my palace and I’m Odysseus, and you guys are the suitors so get with the program and stop trying to marry my wife.
In all seriousness, I’m extremely grateful for any reader I may have regardless of if you subscribe or not. I would love you more if you did, but that’s beside the point. Thank you for sticking with me if you made it this far—if you like what you see, this is essentially what I post (stream-of-consciousness bullshit).
k thanks bye!
